Ons kom van hier

Ons kom van hier is the official anthology of the 2024 Diana Ferrus Prize, a poetry award that celebrates the diversity of Afrikaans and creates space for voices often placed outside the mainstream.

Poets from South Africa and Namibia write in Kaaps, Khoi-Afrikaans and Standard Afrikaans about resilience, heritage, pain, love and a deep connection to language.

The prize is named after Dr Diana Ferrus, the poet and activist whose writing played an important role in the return of Sarah Baartman’s remains to South Africa. It honours her legacy through poetry that connects, heals and remembers.

The anthology includes winning and finalist poems by more than 70 poets, including Gaireyah Fredericks (first place), Dianne du Toit Albertze (second place) and Yuwinn Kraukamp (third place).
