ALL ABOUT US
Minimal Press is an independent South African publishing company founded by Zalman S. Davis. We
publish poetry, fiction and anthologies, connecting distinctive writers with readers who value compelling
stories, thoughtful language and fresh perspectives.
Our work is grounded in an appreciation of South Africa’s literary diversity. We welcome writing that
reflects the experiences of different communities and recognise the importance of creating publishing
opportunities for emerging and established authors.
Our books and literary initiatives
Our publishing list includes AfvlerkMens by Grant Jefthas, The Steps She Takes by Pascual Jacquelin,
Poppedonsie and Farm Murders/Plaasmoorde by Carla van der Spuy, Swartslang and Duifiedorings by
Thomas Deacon, Sound Before Water by Jim Pascual Agustin and Ingrid Jonker – Waterfall of Moss and
Sun.
Our anthology programme includes publications associated with the Diana Ferrus-prys, the Chris Barnard-
prys and the Ingrid Jonker: L’Art Poétique poetry initiative. These projects create opportunities for writers to
share their work within carefully selected collections.
The Chris Barnard-prys publications include Die Chris Barnard-prys: 24 stories and Boere by Thabazimbi
en ander verhale. Together, they reflect our continuing interest in short fiction and in providing a platform
for writers working in this form.
HOW WE WORK
We approach each book individually, considering its literary strengths, intended readership and production needs. Working closely with authors, we guide selected manuscripts through editorial development, proofreading, cover design, typesetting, production and promotion. Throughout this process, we aim to strengthen the work while preserving the author’s voice.
As a small independent publisher, we value personal involvement, clear communication and constructive
working relationships. Our approach combines literary care with practical consideration of each project’s
scope, costs and readership.
CONNECTING BOOKS WITH READERS
Our primary market is South Africa. We work to reach readers through direct sales, author networks, book launches, readings, social media and suitable bookselling opportunities. We also welcome cultural
exchange and collaboration beyond our borders.
Whether you are joining us as an author, reader, bookseller, sales representative or collaborator, we
welcome the opportunity to share our books and introduce you to the people behind them.
