A beggar’s outstretched hand, a child in a burning room and the ominous silence between loved ones: in anders as ek, vulnerability takes a different form each time.

Lee-Ann Stevens writes about the need to be cherished, but also about relationships in which love and fear become entangled. Her speakers carry burdens, seek protection and try to make sense of memories that continue to haunt them.

The poems explore what it means to depend on someone, to be excluded and to witness yourself changing. Through images of the body, walls, fire and water, the collection gives shape to the unease of people who continue to reach out to one another.
